Rainhill residents turned out in their numbers on both dates of the Rainhill Winter Warmth event held at St James Church Hall, on Wednesday 20 and Friday 22 January 2016, where they received advice on keeping warm and well this winter. As part of an ongoing campaign to highlight the importance of staying warm in the winter months, the event was organised by St Helens Senior Voice Forum, in partnership with St Helens Council. Experts were on hand to discuss how to change tariffs, while the council’s Healthy Living and Affordable Warmth teams gave advice on staying fit, safe, warm and well over the winter months.
It came to the attention of Senior Voice that Rainhill had the highest rate of excess winter deaths in the borough, closely followed by Billinge, Eccleston and Rainford and we just had to respond.
Our colleagues at the council rallied round and pulled out all the stops to enable us to deliver vital information to the older people in Rainhill on how to keep warm and well this winter.
We’re delighted at how well these events have been received and plan to deliver similar events in Billinge in February, together with Eccleston and Rainford this autumn.”
